Memorial Day at OIB

This was Margot's first real beach trip (we went to the beach over Easter but it rained the whole time, so she didn't make it to the actual shore).  She LOVES it.  She loves playing in the sand, loves crawling in the shallow ocean water, and loves being whisked around by us in the deeper ocean or while in a floaty in the pool.

Ford, like any three year old, loves running in and out of the waves, and loves building sandcastles and digging holes.  He calls the house the Happy House and was very sad to leave on Memorial Day Monday.  Luckily we'll be back in three weeks!

Ford v. Margot at 7 months

Everyone has always said Ford looks just like Jamie (and I agree).  Just recently I'm starting to hear that Margot looks like me (and I somewhat agree).  But do they look like each other?  It's hard for me to tell since they have very different personalities, but here's a side-by-side from their seven month photos.

30 for 30

Happy happy birthday to my husband!  As a new member of the 30 club, here are 30 fun facts about Jamie:

1. Like his sisters Sam and Taylor he sleeps with his eyes partially open. He's passed this trait on to our son (yay).
2. He brews beer. Currently he's got a jalapeƱo pale ale going for us, and is helping Rob with a strawberry-banana hefeweizen.
3. He's broken his nose playing baseball.
4. He did not know how to write a check when I met him at age 22.
5. His favorite party trick is performing field sobriety tests on friends.
6. He and Bryan are writing a book. Or a screenplay. Or starting a restaurant...or a band.
7. He's a third behind his dad, Vincent James Filliben, Jr. He's always gone by his middle name, except for a brief stint in law school when we called him Vincent after Walt's dog on LOST.
8. He plays guitar and piano by ear.  He says he plays trumpet as well but I've yet to see it (to be fair, we don't have a lot of trumpets lying around).
9. He was a northerner for 22 years and has been in the south for 8.
10. His northern friends think he sounds southern and his southern friends think he sounds northern.
11. He rooted for the Tar Heels long before he married one and prior to having any ties to NC.
12. He is not remotely a Wake Forest fan though he's paid them a LOT of tuition.
13.  He can sleep through anything. I'd say it's fishy when one of our kids wakes at 3am and he "didn't hear it" but it was evident long before we were parents.
14.  He loves ASOIAF and GoT but surprisingly doesn't play up the fact he has the same name as golden boy Lannister.  I would.
15. All of the presidents he's voted for have won.
16. He got shoved into a locker in middle school for wearing Ralph Lauren. I will never understand bullies.
17. He rarely expresses jealously, but has an extreme case for our three year old's bilingual peers.
18. He admittedly has no sense of direction and is surprisingly bad at puzzles. I don't know if these two are related.
19. He is one of the few males that underestimates his height. (Or maybe it's just that I overestimate it?)
20. He claims we get all our news from the same sources, but seems to know a LOT more about pop culture fluff than I do.
21. His pet peeve is having markings or stamps on his hands.
22. He only joke dances.
23. When we met I wanted 0 or 2 kids, he wanted 3. We eventually "agreed" on 2 but I think he secretly would want another.
24. He'll bring #23 up as a serious topic of discussion next time we're drinking.
25. He is always on the lookout for a good trivia team name. We almost never play trivia.
26. He loves obscure references and doesn't get why using them in conversation isn't funny to everyone.
27. He's run two 1/2 marathons, and will run a third this fall.
28. For about a year of his adult life he had asthma and used an inhaler.  Other than that, completely asthma free.
29. He's sometimes messy but rarely dirty (credit to his mom for this).
30. Being 1.5 years older, he makes fun of me for the half of the year it looks like he's 2 years younger, so I love when his birthday rolls around.

Happy birthday, darling!  We love you very very very very very very very much.  Welcome to 30!

Happy seven months, Margot!

A Hoppy Happy Easter

For Easter, we continued our tradition of going to Ocean Isle with my family (this would've been Margot's first time seeing the beach, but it rained the entire weekend, so next time, MarMar), then heading to Raleigh for Easter Sunday for egg hunts and dinner with Jamie's family.  We missed Uncle Rob and Aunt Steph at the beach, and Aunt Sam in Raleigh this year, but heard the Bunny visited Charlotte and California too.
